VISION:

At the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA), we celebrate and honour the safety and healing of Indigenous Women and Girls as they take up their leadership roles in the family, community, provincially, nationally and internationally for generations to come.

SCOPE:

Aakode’ewin – Courage for Change Program works to support women who are at risk of, entrenched in, or are survivors of human trafficking and sex trades, inclusive of trans and two-spirited women and girls. With a focus on Indigenous women Courage provides wrap around service through a culturally driven, trauma informed anti-oppressive lens.

The Courage Youth Outreach Worker (CYOW) engages and supports Indigenous youth ages 16 and 24 (inclusive) in and around the downtown Toronto area to promote and reinforce safety, healthy relationships, and overall positive health. The CYOW will work to develop and implement one-on-one and group engagement opportunities, educational material/opportunities, programing, and direct interventions which ensure vulnerable Indigenous youth build capacity, connections, identity, and self-esteem. The CYOW will meet with youth through person-to-person, voice-to-voice, email, social media, and other interactions which may occur in the community or neighborhood locations.
