Summer Solstice at the Aga Khan

On June 19, 2026, TYRMC joined in the festivites at the Aga Khan Summer Solstice event held by Toronto Council Fire.

School groups joined in as well as museum guests. Some were interested in the colours of our sash, the meaning; how they were made. Others wanted to smell all the medicines and understand the use behind them. Of course, the children were fascinated by the furs and learned about the use of furs in the fur trade, as well as pinning the sash on the moose! The Council Fire Metis teepee was positioned outside near our booth.

Kathy Morgan held multiple dot art classes, showing and how dot art is present around the world (using a dot art rattle from Jamaica as an example), and playing some musical spoons with dot art by giving the kids a quick example of playing them!

Some parents and teachers didn’t know that this event was happening on the day they visited the Aga Khan Museum, but they were so excited they got to be a part of it.

Thank you to the Aga Khan Museum and Toronto Council Fire for having us!
