Description: The Curatorial Assistant (Indigenous) will research the cultures, languages, and geographies of Indigenous peoples through the exploration of oral histories, from creation stories until present times, and the historical interplay of contemporary knowledge of the cultures, languages, and lands of the Indigenous peoples of the Greater Toronto and Humber River area. The objective is to research, rethink, and re-frame the dominant colonial lens of the interpretation of the lower Humber River and environs. This educational project is to be accessible to the public. Collaborate as needed with the on-site Archive Technician Intern and Curatorial Assistant. Answer telephone and in-person inquiries. Other light housekeeping duties as required.

The Curatorial Assistant (Indigenous) must have knowledge of the historical and contemporary experiences and geography of Indigenous peoples in Ontario, with an emphasis on the GTA and peoples. The research requires an understanding of Indigenous resilience, including the historical processes of diplomacy, alliances, and treaty-making, trade and relationships with settlers, and principles and ethics of Indigenous Knowledge.

The project requires an understanding of how to process information, and the vocabulary to communicate to a variety of audiences.
