Position Title: Indigenous Great Lake Network Initiative Coordinator
Location: Indigenous Environmental Institute, Trent University
Hours: Flexible, 35 hours/week
Salary: 75-80k / year plus benefits (position is funded for 4 years with possibility of extension)
Reports to: Drs. Barbara Wall and Mary-Claire Buell
Overview:
The Indigenous Great Lake Network Initiative Coordinator is a dynamic and multifaceted role
responsible for facilitating the planning, coordination, and implementation of various activities and
projects within the Indigenous Great Lake Network. This position involves organizing events,
supporting grant writing, maintaining communication platforms, and managing administrative
tasks to promote Indigenous-led and Indigenous-related research across the Great Lakes region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Workshop and Annual Gathering Planning:
- Organize and coordinate virtual and in-person workshops for network members.
- Plan and execute two in-person gatherings annually: one in the fall and another in early summer,
aligned with the International Association of Great Lakes Research conference.
- Event Calendar/ Proposal Opportunity Management:
- Maintain a comprehensive calendar of events related to Great Lakes research.
- Maintain a calendar of applicable workshops across the Great Lakes that are of interest to
network members. - Maintain a calendar of requests for proposals from various granting agencies.
- Grant Writing Support:
- Facilitate and support grant writing efforts for network members’ communities or organizations.
- Website and Social Media Maintenance:
- Regularly update and maintain the network’s website. Manage and update the network’s social
media platforms.
- Research Project Database:
- Create and manage a database of current Indigenous-led and Indigenous-related research
projects across the Great Lakes.
- Interactive Map Development:
- Coordinate the development of an interactive map showcasing current Indigenous-led and
Indigenous-related research projects.
- Reporting:
- Prepare and submit reports to network funders.
- Budget Tracking and Reporting:
- Track the budget and prepare final reports, working in collaboration with research finance and
the Office of Research and Innovation.
- Communication with network members (email, phone, etc)
- fulfilling requests for information; connecting network members on request; connecting network
members with funding organizations
- Supporting other network related tasks
- Supporting Scholarship establishment; supporting research; supporting network affiliates with
project co-ordination
Qualifications: - Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Experience with event planning and coordination.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in maintaining websites and social media platforms.
- Ability to manage budgets and prepare financial reports.
- Experience in grant writing and familiarity with grant proposal processes.
- Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and protocols is an asset.
- Familiarity with Great Lakes research and environmental issues is preferred.
- Experinece as an event facilitator
-Experience conducting or supporting research is an asset.
