Our TYRMC Community Garden harvest this Sunday, Oct 6 at Allan Gardens was a great success! A sunny day to meet fellow citizens over three sisters soup, bannock and harvesting medicine.

Lunch was followed by a sacred fire and a talk by Educator Robin Tench, speaking about the uses for the medicines that we grow in our garden, including white sage, sweetgrass, tobacco and cedar, as well as a demonstration on braiding sweetgrass. Examples of these were provided by the Allan Garden’s Community Garden. It was a lovely feeling to carry some tobacco to the garden to say thank you before harvesting.

Some citizens even braided their sweetgrass right while it was still in the soil!

People also collected tobacco and marigold seeds, kale, marigolds, tomatoes, chard and sage – a very fruitful harvest! The remnants of the medicines will be harvested and donated to the sacred fire at Allan Gardens.

Yet another day of connection and learning! Stay tuned for our 2026 garden!
