On Saturday, June 4th 2022, the TYRMC attended Toronto’s first-ever 2-Spirit Pow Wow, hosted by the 2-Spirited People of the First Nations. At Downsview Park in Toronto/Tkaronto, community members who identify as 2-Spirited, as well as many allies, celebrated their place in modern society on a brilliantly sunny day. There was lots of dancing, singing, drumming, and local artisans. Suzanne Brunelle was the Métis flag bearer, alongside MNO President Margaret Froh.
This was a historical, ground-breaking, and emotional event for the 2-Spirited community of Toronto/Tkaronto. For far too long, this community has been disconnected from the larger population. This 2S Pow Wow is starting a tradition of reclaiming our identities and our place in the circle. For the 2S community to socialize and support each other, and to celebrate who they are.
